 League Director: Clint McGovern

At Cambridge Curling Club we want to share our passion we have for the sport of curling.  Our Wednesday Night Beginners League is a way that novice curlers can learn the sport and enjoy league play with other curlers at the same level in the sport.  This is a league that is unique as it offers seasoned coaches that assist in teaching curling technique, game play and etiquette. This league is an open league which encourages teams comprised of both genders and any range of ages.  We are offering multiple leagues for the 2018 -2019 season.

Please note:  You do not need to have a full team (4 players) to participate.  Individuals are encouraged to sign up too, teams will be assembled the night of curling.

What to Wear

Shoes:  If this is your first time, show up with (preferably brand new) but clean rubber bottomed shoesMake sure they are CLEAN.   Pick out every piece of gravel, dirt, dust, lint, etc.  In curling, the stone weighs ~40 lbs but travels on a very small ring.  So something like a stone, a clump of lint or a human hair can cause it to grind to a halt or veer off in a new direction.  Clean shoes are important to this.

Pants: Avoid blue jeans.  Blue jeans do not stretch enough and denim has a tendency to stick to the ice.  Avoid sweat pants.  Like blue jeans, they will stick to the ice plus it will drop lint that will interfere with the rock.  The best are athletic pants, preferably with a "plastic" outside, similar to kids snow pants.  If you are prone to being cold, you may find some with a lining to keep you a bit warmer.  The idea is something that won't stick to the ice, won't drop lint, will keep you warm and give you flexibility.

Please do not wear fleece...or if you do, make sure it has been washed several times.  Anything fuzzy will drop a lot of lint, which will effect the stones.

The Cambridge Curling Club will provide brooms, grippers, sliders and anything else you will need to get started.
